Please return the heart of Rotterdam!

I saw this statue just at the side of the Maritime Museum is Rotterdam and did not think much of it. It resembled all the other abstract statues strewn all over the place. I later read that the statue represents the lost heart of Rotterdam. In 1940, the city was destroyed in a span of 10 minutes because of Hitler's aerial bombing. I think post independence, Rotterdam retrieved its dignity in style but the statue stands as a reminder of a war that should never have happened!

The coloured threads..

What I love most about the open markets in Holland are the different hues you can find there! Graffiti cans and simple threads can be so gloriously colourful!

01-01-2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! The first day of the year 2010 and my last day in Holland. I have had the most marvellous time here. On New Years Eve, my cousin sister N and me stood by the Erasmus bridge, held our breaths and welcomed the New Year. Rotterdam put on an amazing show of fireworks and I felt chills go up and down my spine when the crowd went 10,9,8,7,6...3,2,1. And it was here! the new year, 2010.  What does 2010 have in store for me? Will my year in France boost my career? Will I find out even what I want as a career? What about travelling and writing? Thats already happening now isnt it! Im actually taking my first steps towards my dreams. Maybe I will go to Italy next month. Maybe I will begin working in Spain. Or Portugal? I have a funny feeling inside of me that I will have a marvellous year ahead. Its also a feeling that cannot be described in all totality! Im excited and nervous and oh so scared! Stepping outside my comfort zone is scary! It`s a nice feeling I think. Tomorrow I leave Rotterdam and head to Paris and then a short train ride and Im home in Rouen. Strangely Ive missed Rouen. A lot.
